Jawani Phir Nahin Ani: Masala Movie of the Year!

This film had been making waves in the local cinema industry even before its release. This is mostly because the film's song, Fair N Lovely Ka Jalwa had gone viral on digital platform. People hated the fact that it was so catchy even though it had major choreography issues. The song alone has garnered over a million views on social media! Admittedly, the song was the best film promotion move as it brought our favorite stars out of their typical moody, brooding characters (in Pakistani dramas) and gave them a humorous touch.

As an social media activist, this film had become the center of ever conversation and the hype continued on until its release in all Pakistani cinemas on Eid-ul-Adha. Unfortunately I was unable to watch it until recently. I had gotten a fair share of reviews of the film by then and it was beyond my expectation. Some digital media outlets have said that:

Express Tribune: I have seen Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA) twice. Both times, the hall was jam-packed. Both times, I laughed so hard throughout the film my jaw started hurting. Both times, the audience’s laughter barely left any space for a moment of silence. If you’ve watched the film, you know I am not stretching the truth.

Karachista: The film scores on many levels, with some excellent performances, sleek styling and plenty of laughs. It is let down by some frankly awful songs, awkward product placement and heavy inspiration from Bollywood. Nevertheless, it’s a laugh-out-loud entertainer with just the right feel-good factor for Eid.

Brand Synario: When it comes to entertainment, we Pakistanis crave for a full fest of comedy, deep doze of romance and a pocketful of masala. Seemingly, this is the recipe mix that ARY’s Jawani Phir Nahi Ani intends to offer to the nation this Eid-Ul-Adha.

Critics and fellow social media peers were raving about the film as a Must Watch! Despite my busy schedule, I had to watch the film that has made the majority of movie-goers laugh out loud. I bought the ticket at Nueplex and went in.

Expectation: This film has to make me laugh. My life has to drift away and I stay completely engrossed.

Reality: After the film, I came out still snickering over catchy punchlines and hilarious scenes. It was the masala movie that literally made my day!

There is a reason why masala films are so popular; it's an escape from reality and puts you in a situation which will never ever ever happen to you (in a literal manner that is). Honestly, would a friend of yours be able to convince your wife to let you go North for a medical emergency? Or fall in "love" with a Don's daughter? (Well, if she looked like Mehwish Hayat......). But we all want to watch it. And I loved every minute of it. The film picks up cultural cues that we are familiar with and made it a comical journey. There were so many situations that were embedded in the narrative which made me say: "Yes! This happens!".

Overall, if you want to an escape from your tough life, this is the movie to watch. Laugh a minute film for us Pakistanis :)
